FP - part 8

Benartex has some wonderful fabric lines, which includes the beautiful Luminosity line desinged by Paula Nadelstern. I took a class from her last year using this line of fabric. The free patterns are here (be sure to check out the Project Archives as well). Oh, and they are also the makers of Minkee fabric. Mmmmm. Minkee.

FP - part 7

Maywood Studio has wonderful fabrics and is home to Jackie Robinson's designs, including the Fuchsia lines. Gotta get some of that one of these days... Free patterns here (click on "Quilts & Projects", then "Free Patterns").

FP - part 6

Free Spirt fabrics has those wonderful new designers on their label, like Heather Bailey, Valori Wells and Anna Maria Horner. The designs are fresh, yet retro. I love the Lightning Bugs lines, but I don't see the fabric around much at the local stores. Looks like it's on-line purchases for those. Check out their wonderful free patterns here.

FP - part 5

Timeless Treasures makes beautiful fabrics as well. I keep hearing about the "Gatsby" line on the blogs -- it must be a popular one. Here are their patterns.

FP - part 4

I've been buying Red Rooster Fabrics lately without even realizing it. They have that wonderful line of Halloween prints called Simply Spooky that we saw all over last fall. Also a line from a certain designer that I've been talking about too much lately (who was on tv recently). Here's a link to their free patterns -- if you download any, be sure to check the link to their pattern corrections.

Another great fabric company - Hoffman fabrics. Find their free patterns here. Don't forget about the Hoffman Challenge. Hmmm. Wasn't I going to enter that this year...

Free Patterns - part 2

Michael Miller Frabrics is another favorite of mine. Check out their website to see the great collections they have now. Their patterns are here. My mom made the Boy Toys Quilt for my nephew a few years ago and it was adorable!

Free Patterns

I love how the fabric manufacturers are creating free patterns for sample quilts they have made using their new lines of fabrics. A lot of times you can pick up these patterns at the quilt shops along with a kit containing the fabrics, but you can also get these patterns from the manufacturer's websites. I'll try to link to as many here as possible in the coming days. One of my favorite fabric makers is Moda. I don't think I've disliked anything they've ever produced. Here is a link to Moda's free patterns.

Hi all. Did you catch the quilting segment on CBS Sunday Morning? If not, you can view it here on-line.

Happy 100 to me!!!

Welcome to my 100th post! And you all say I don't post often enough! I'm celebrating by throwing a nation-wide day of quilting this weekend. I'll call it National Quilting Day! Just kidding -- National Quilting Day is certainly this Saturday, March 15, 2008, but I have nothing to do with it. Lots of the quilting shops, magazines, and webites are having specials and events for the day, so do try to check those out. Locally at the Laurel Leaf, it coincides with Julie (the owner) Murphy's birthday, and she is having a sale and cake and such on Saturday.

On another exciting note, CBS's Sunday Morning is doing a segment on quilting and they have profiled one of my favorites, Ricky Tims (see also previous post).

They generally post the segments on their website after they air, so that you can view them later if you miss the show. I'm really looking forward to it. Sunday Morning is a great show with a very eclectic variety of segment subjects, and they have more depth than the short snippets you see on other shows.

Hand Dyed Fabric Sale

This news just in from Ricky Tims and The Quilt Show:

Ricky Tims' hand-dyed fabrics have been an industry favorite for ten years. However, Ricky has announced that they are about to do an entire overhaul of the recipes and change the base fabric for a new and improved line of hand-dyes. As a result, Tims Art Quilt Studio will be clearing out all of the current inventory. If you are interested in obtaining a few yards for your fabric collection at 50% off of the regular price visit the online store at Ricky's website.

Stay tuned for more Ricky Tims news...

Knit Knot Tree

I have pictures and items to post about from the weekend, but I thought I would pop up this quickie that I read about in the news first. In Dayton, OH, there is an art project called the KnitKnot Tree where knitters are making panels and attaching to this particular tree. Apparently it has created quite a buzz and people are traveling from all over to see it and have their pictures taken with it. You can read the story here and here. Actually, these stories are the same, but the pictures are different.
