I chose some more fabrics to go with my Mystery Block of the Month project over at Pat Sloan's blog. I love all of the colors in the inspiration print, but I'm not sure if I like the colors together away from the print. I will press on and see what becomes of it. All fabric has come from my stash so far. I thought I might have to buy some background fabric, but I finally found a piece of white-on-white in my stash bins that was big enough for the entire project.
Above is the finished block for January. I took the picture at night again, and it looks very yellow. I'll try to grab another picture when there is daylight outside. I may also look into getting true-light light bulbs for my sewing room. I had a heck of a time trying to see if my white fabrics were all the same white when pulling fabric for this project. I had to keep stepping outside the front door into natural light to see that some fabric was actually off white. Oh well - that's a minor problem! Also, I had to take the picture on my (scorched) ironing board. My design wall is white and the design would have appeared to be floating on the board!
I simplified some of the piecing in the block. The unit that makes the star points can be made as one unit, rather than four half-square triangles or two flying geese units. I like to have as little bulk as possible, and the result really worked out for me.

Well I didn't get any sewing done this past week. I have a few projects that are ready for me to work on, but I just couldn't get to them. One of the projects that I am planning on is a free Mystery Block of the Month with Pat Sloan. I've always liked her patterns and she designs some great fabric, too! My sister and I wanted a project to work on at the same time - to keep us motivated. I found this one that just started in January and I think it will be a fun one. Over the weekend I finally pulled some fabrics. I got the butterfly print over the holidays using a gift certificate that I got for my birthday. I loved it, but didn't have a project in mind, so I bought a couple of yards figuring I might use it as a border for something. I think it will be great for this project. I decided that most of the quilt will be somewhat scrappy, so I can use my stash. I pulled a few fat quarters that I can start with. I'll add some blues as well. I'm getting excited about this one!!
Also starting back up this week is Mystery Mondays over at the This & That blog. This one has a clue every week on Mondays. Last week had the supply list and this week is the first clue. I need to pull fabric for that one as well. I'll go scrappy on that one too - just need to decide on a color scheme first.
I'm looking forward to a year of new projects!

I was finally able to sew a little on Sunday. I've had a terrible head cold that I can't seem to shake, so I wasn't able to sew over the holiday break as much as I wanted. In fact, I'm terribly behind for my quilting class, which starts very soon. I'll need to get creative in order to have projects to present. I did manage to get out of the house over the weekend. I needed to get outside, so I decided to go to a quilt shop! Which brings me to the stash report... 2014 was a crazy year for me - lots going on, including moving to a new city. All of my fabric got packed up, and I ended up giving away quite a bit that I knew I would never use. I never tallied up how much I got rid of, and so my stash busting reports went by the wayside. Of course, that also meant that I did not tally up how much got added! Now it's a new year and I'm back on the stash busting bandwagon. I bought two one-yard cuts of blue fabrics and one half-yard piece of the print shown below.
So that means I've added 2.50 yards of fabric, but I am also calculating about 2.75 yards used in the quilt top above. I'll be reporting this weekly, if there is any activity. If I haven't used or added any fabric in a given week, I won't bother to post a report.
Fabric added this week: 2.50 yards
Fabric added this year: 2.50 yards
Fabric used this week: 2.75 yards
Fabric used this year: 2.75 yards
Total net usage: 0.25 yards used!
